Safeguarding Charity points to possible flaw in new National Register of Clergy regulations

NEW regulations for the National Register of Clergy contain a loophole, whereby clergy who were suspended, or who had “stepped back from ministry” before the Regulations came into effect in May, could be included in the list of authorised clergy, the director of a safeguarding charity has suggested.

Church of England accused of silencing victims of abuse through new clergy guidance

An advocate for abuse survivors has accused the Church of England of “sliding through” new guidance which will frighten victims of abuse into keeping quiet. Speaking to Premier, Gavin Drake says that despite assurances to the contrary, the Church has created a “dangerous situation where victims are silenced.”

The long fight to criminalise rape in marriage

Our aim was about more than overturning the immunity for husbands who raped their wives: it was also about asserting the rights of women to refuse sex with any man, in any situation, for whatever reason. Over 30 years of the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme

For over 30 years the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme has helped victims of crime get justice. The scheme was launched in 1989 following public outcry over a series of controversial sentencing decisions, including the 1986 ‘Ealing vicarage rape’ case where 21-year-old Jill Saward was raped by burglars at her father’s vicarage.
